*Happy* Tuesday

Okay - before you start reading you MUST play this song while reading.  It will help you better understand my state of mind today.

Trust me.

Oh and you must also drink a half a pot of coffee - really strong coffee or a huge Mountain Dew.  You know, jazz yourself up.

It helps.

Are you listening to the tunes???

Happy yet??

Okay, so I'm on my 6th snow day of the school year.  The first 3 didn't count in my book because I was sick.

These last 2 have been good because I've been doing this…..
I've been making things……and reading things…..and drinking coffee….and listening to awesome happy tunes…..and-and-and-forgetting that it's a friggin negative 27 degrees outside.

So, I'm heading back to my creative corner to work on some more happy schtuff, k?

Crank up that song one more time - you know you want to and celebrate - it's Tuesday - get up and boogie right where you are!

Happy! Happy!  Happy Dance!!!!

Monday Morning Coffee

Good morning everyone!!  This shot is actually from December, but we've been stuck in the throws of a real Michigan winter since before Christmas.  The piles at the end of our driveway are so high we can barely see past them to pull out on the road.  We accumulated at least another 6-7 inches of snow over the past weekend as well, and the temps continue to hover in the single digit range.  Although we had a bit of a heat wave and hit the low 20s this past weekend, but the wind chills brought the feeling back down to the single digits.

I'm sick of being sick.  So over it, but apparently my body isn't yet.

We stayed in for most of the weekend, but I did manage to get a few things done.

Like this scarf which I gave to daughter #1 last night - she LOVES it!

Friday ended up being a "snow day" due to the wind chill factor bringing temps into the negative 20 range.  So I untagged this...
 and started another wrap scarf.

Some of the weekend's entertainment included this….
the last bottle brought back from Italy to us by our good friends.

It included driving in a lot of this as well….
but it is January and it is Michigan and it is winter.

But we got to finish off our weekend with family dinner night, which included our little pumpkin coming along….
We get her for a whole week starting next Sunday while Son & Daughter #1 go on a little vay-cay wither her parents.

It's another snow day for me - extremely poor weather conditions.

Happy Monday everyone.

Oh & don't forget about my new meme that happens on the 1st of the month, which is this Saturday.  Feet First!  Won't you join me in recording where your feet take you on the 1st day of every month?  You can hook up with me via your blog and/or Instagram.  You'll have Through midnite on the 2nd day of the month to link up with me, right here!  Be sure to check back on the 1st to get the full details!!

Wednesday What Nots.....

Oh what joy filled my heart yesterday when I opened the mailbox.  This little cutie calendar was sent to me by my blogging buddy from Illinois.  We have never met in real life, but that will change this year - I just know it will!

Deanna, who's blog is Snippets From Springdale, it is a fun place to visit ----- often.  She is an amazing photographer, one whom I admire greatly & want to be like when I grow up (insert giggle).  She loves tea cups & coffee mugs & her calendar is pics of all those little treasures.  About a year ago, Dream Boy & I were wandering a 2nd hand furniture store & I spotted that little winking gem in the picture above.  She was winking at me & whispering, "Deanna, Deanna".  Well of course I had to oblige the little tea cup & purchase her & quickly send her off to her rightful owner.  Well, little Miss Tea Cup made the cut & is the cover shot for this delightful calendar.   Thank you so much Deanna for this wonderful gift!

Polar Vortex - isn't that actually the same as the Alberta Clippers we've had in the past?  Like my friend, Kathy, who lives in Philly - I think these are just made up words.  Did they ever exist in the weatherman vocabulary before this?  Did Keith Thompson, the weather guy from the local news station, actually study this format of weather using this actual term when he was in college forever & a day ago?  My goodness - I remember, as I'm sure many of you do, walking up hill both ways to the bus stop every.single.day in massive snow piles that were at least 2 feet deep, with nothing but the homemade mittens & muffler & my fuzzy coat, feet stuffed into bread bags & then stuffed into my shoe boots, wearing pants under my skirt because we weren't allowed to wear pants to school, carrying my lunch & my shoes & my school books in subzero weather every single day of every single winter.  Seriously.

Another little funny from this week.  During lunch on Monday, the girls that I eat with at school got onto the topic of bra's.  Wha?  I have no clue how the conversation ever turned to that, probably when we talking about leggings are NOT pants and then it just naturally traveled to the fact that bra's are now apparently a fashion statement as well as the teenage girls in our school have NO issue with their over the shoulder boulder holders hanging out for all the world to see.  Anyways, one of the teacher's was giggling about her "almost A" cup size.  We were laughing along with her when she said, "no, you don't understand.  Almost A is an actual cup size in the Playtex brand - the box actually says it!"

On Sunday, I was approached by our choir director.  He's been wanting to fully retire from it, but no one is willing to take over.  So - are you ready for this?  Are you sitting down, with your legs crossed, because I know you'll laugh as hard as I did & almost pee because of what he asked me.  He asked me if I would consider taking over the choir director's job?   HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!!!!  HAHAHAHAHAHAHA!  Really?  Oh my goodness.  I love to sing, there is no question about that.  I have sung in the choir at school, at churches, I've been on the praise teams at a few churches.  I can read music enough to get me through & learn, but I learn music because I hear the harmony in the song.  All this techie stuff about counting, 3 quarter time, crescendo and the likes are basically just words to me.  I am an alto and I hear harmony.  Play me a song once & I'll hear the harmony in it and pick it right up.  Play me a song & I'll hear the tempo and pick it right up.  That is the extent of my musical knowledge.  Choir director ----  oy vey!

Dream Boy & I have been talking and some studying of the finances as we tend to do every year at this time.  We have, for the last 2 years, gone to Florida for a week in Florida.  Hea.ven.ly.  But this year we've made the decision not to go to Florida, we're saving our pennies instead to visit Son #2 & B2B2 (bride to be 2) in Seattle.  So I'm on the lookout for a great deal on flights - watching every single day and hoping & praying that maybe over spring break we can manage this little vacation.

Besides - I'll get to go to Florida for 4 days at the end of April with 36 high school seniors.  Bonus!

Monday Morning Coffee

This is my typical Monday morning - I thought I'd bring you along today with me.

Every Monday morning, as most of you know, I meet up with two of my gals from school.  We each work in a different building in our district, but we became good friends through our years of being the representatives for the paraprofessionals in our district.  We are all Christians and share our walk with each other.  A few years ago we decided it would be a good idea to start our week with each other in a time of prayer and edification.  I love this part of my week, even though it's very early, it is a great way to start out!  Our verse for the week was Ecclesiastes 3:1-2 & 8:: there is a season for everything --  love this verse!

How was your weekend?  Ours was very nice, not too busy, but busy enough.  We pretty much stayed around the home base - Dream Boy is tearing the basement apart.  He can't get out & ride his bike, so he's occupying his mind & time with this project.

I started mine off after school on Friday at my radiologist oncologist for my 6 month check up/follow up on my thyroid cancer.  I was diagnosed 5 years ago and had my thyroid removed and they were confident that they had gotten all the cancer.  But there is a process that any cancer patient knows, is followed after.  The checks up and follow ups - they are necessary.  I got a glowing report that everything is still clear and I no longer have to go in every 6 months, I no longer have to have the ultrasounds done and I can go a year between my visits & blood work with him now!  Cancer free for 5 years and counting!   Amen!!

While there, they checked my lungs - even though my chest x-ray was clear, due to my gravely voice & coughing.  She told me that my lungs are clear, but when she looked down my throat she said my bronchial tubes are still very swollen & red & I need to get back into my family physician & possibly get back on another dosage of anti-biotics.  This sinusitis is kicking my boot-ay!  So a call to the family doc will be in order today.  Dream Boy is tired of my excessive snoring as well........need I say more?

Saturday was a day of this & that.  We attended a memorial service for our sister-in-law's father and then did our grocery shopping.  Haven't really done that since before Christmas, so it was way past time.

I finished a book this weekend that I've been reading for about 2 weeks.  That's quite a long time for me, but it was a slow start & took me a bit to really get into it, but I did & I finished it Saturday night.  I started another book yesterday & almost half way through.  This one is a quick read.  I had picked up a couple books on the clearance racks at B&N over break & am finally getting through them.  I ordered a photography book over the weekend which should be here mid-week, so that will be my next read.

The "marrieds" (son & daughter #1) came for dinner last night.  We tried a new recipe, chicken enchiladas, for dinner.  They were yum.mee!  I have leftovers for lunch today.  Is it lunch time yet?

Well, I must get busy with school work - the bell just rang & another week has started.  We have exams the last half of the week - so I'll have half days.  Kind of a nice little break.

Take care & have a great day.

Don't forget about my new meme coming up --  "Feet First".  Be sure to join me on the 1st of every month and capture your "feet" as you travel through your day of the month.  Then come back here on the 2nd and link up your posts/pictures of your days travels.  You can blog or hook up through instagram - details will be posted on the 1st of every month!!!

Song-Ography::"The Lazy Song" Edition

"I'll be lounging on the couch just chillin' in my snuggie,
Flip to MTV so they can teach me how to Dougie,
'Cause in my castle I'm the freakin man,
Yes I said it,
I said it,
I said it 'cause I can!"

After a run to turn in scrap steel, snow blowing out the driveway, attending a memorial service and grocery shopping - Dream Boy is doing what he wants, 'cause he can.

Linking up with Kathy at You'll Shoot Your Eye Out - Songography.

Random 5 Friday

1.  Yep.  Life has pretty much been like this for the last 2 weeks or so.  I think even Libbi the Wonder Dog has been feeling low.  We've all been bogged down with the flu bug.  Energy levels are finally starting to return to somewhat normal for me.

2.  We are having a true Michigan winter.  We haven't had one like this in for.ev.er!  I'm loving it, but have missed being able to get out into it like I normally do with Lucy.  Maybe this weekend I can finally go for a winter stroll in the woods?

3.  Wedding plans are once again in the making for our family.  Son #2 got engaged last September and they aren't getting married until May of 2015 - but now that we are into the new year.....ideas and plans are starting to come together.  YAY!!  This one is a bit of a challenge to plan as they both live in Seattle, her parent's are in Minnesota and we are in Michigan - where the wedding will be held.

4.  Son & Daughter #1 sold their home and are now looking for a new one.  They are moving from a little 700 square foot home to what will seem like a mansion to them, I'm sure, when they find the "right one".  They will be living in the general area of Dream Boy & I.  Love having them so close.

5.  I might have volunteered to ride around on a donkey in our high school gym in the near future trying to play basketball.  I figured having an extra a$$ under me might help my shot?

So glad to be back on the blog - working on some regular posts.  Don't forget about my new meme "Feet First".  Be sure to check back for more details, it happens on the 2nd of every month!

Now, take a random stroll over at Nancy's and see what else everyone else is randomly doing on this wintery Friday.

Monday Morning Coffee

Another Monday morning, already halfway into January!

Another chance at a new week.  To make new memories, new decisions, new routines.  To reach, search and go beyond our norm.

Last summer I subscribed to a new photography magazine called "Click".  It's a bi-monthly magazine.  My newest edition came on Saturday and I've been spending several hours soaking it up.  I still haven't fully made it through, but I quite enjoy it.  It has fed the fire inside me to take my photography beyond where I am at now.  I want to learn so much more, I still feel I'm quite a novice.  So I will start looking for classes, whether online or elsewhere, I don't know, but I really-really want to work on my skills this year.

This past weekend was also quiet for us.  I'm still fighting the nasty bug & Dream Boy has been as well.  We managed to go out to a hockey game Saturday night, but I didn't make it much past that.

The weather was very uneventful after last weekend.  We actually had temps in the mid 30s with rain, where as last weekend it was 35 below zero with raging snow!  Now they are predicting a more "typical" winter, at least for the time being.

So I'm off to school to start a new day of a new week.  Where is your day taking you?

Brave - Song--ography Version

But I wonder what would happen if

You say what you wanna say
And let the words fall out
Honestly I wanna see you be brave!

Everybody's been there, everybody's been stared down
By the enemy
Fallen for the fear and done some disappearing
Bow down to the mighty
Don't run, stop holding your tongue
Maybe there's a way out of the cage where you live
Maybe one of these days you can let the light in
Show me how big your brave is

As I've grown older, I've learned not to live in the shadow of someone else's stare.  To use my words, but to learn from how I felt in my younger life and use my words to be brave and honest, but not to hurt.

I may not always say the right thing, but I do my best to be brave and say what needs to be said.

Burst My Bubble

I have failed miserably - in my eyes at least.  I have been writing & taking notes for several months now about ideas for blog posts I could do on a regular basis beginning with the New Year.

But it hasn't happened - yet.  I've tried - but my heart has not been into it or much of anything else.  If you follow along, you know that I've been sick for over a week now.  To make it even harder, Dream Boy came down with it 2 days after me.  Nothing worse than us both being sick at the same time.

The weather hasn't helped with the cabin fever either.  As I sat in my chair watching the storm raging outside, it drove me crazy not to be out walking around in it capturing more images with Lucy.  Being sick was part of it, the other was the fact that it was dangerously cold to be out for any length of time.  Even Libbi the Wonder Dog couldn't handle anything more than a quick romp to take care of business before running to the porch door on 3 legs because one foot was too cold.

We had 3 snow days this week, and by Wednesday - even though I still had absolutely no energy, I was ready for the routine to change.  On Thursday we went back to school.  My students & co-workers scolded me for coming to school due to the way I sounded, but I couldn't take another day cooped up.

On Friday I was able to do a pretty mean imitation of Barry White when one of the secretaries called me with a question.  Yes, I sound like a man.  Lovely!

But life goes on, right?  I need to reach beyond the bad & find the good & cling to the fact that this will pass.  Maybe not as quick as I was hoping, but it will.

On Wednesday, the temps had risen to just above zero, but the wind chills were still below.  I wanted so bad to experiment with bubbles in the cold temps.  The best I could do was open the dining room windows and blow my bubbles.  Didn't work as well as I'd hoped, but they do freeze and shatter/crumble when you touch them.

I feel as though I've lived in a bubble for the last 10 days - and I am ready to burst that bubble and move on with this New Year!  So here's to new beginnings, which don't have to start with a New Year, right?

Living The Dream

It was -10 this morning when I woke up, with a wind chill of -35.

Living the dream.

Still fighting with the nasty "non-contagious sinusitis" I was diagnosed with, but each day is a little better.  It's nice that I've had 2 days off from school to help with my recovery.

But I gotta admit, the 20 minutes I spent in my car with Lucy was a much needed reprieve.  I had to go down to the drugstore, a whopping 2 minutes drive from my house to get prescription refills.  I went back home & picked up Lucy & spent a few minutes in my car capturing the raging storm that is my world right now.

"Plenty of Room"

We're still under some major storm warnings, but hopefully tomorrow things will begin to look up -- like the temperature.  By Friday we could reach the 30s and possible rain.

Crazy, blizzards on Monday & rain on Friday.

Welcome to my world!

Monday Morning Coffee

Welcome to my winter wonderland!
We had received the reports for a few days that it was going to be bad this weekend.  It started as a winter weather advisory, then soon turned to a winter storm warning and was then further extended from ending at 1am to 8pm tonite.  NOW it's been extended until 8am tomorrow morning.  Since 7:30 last night we got about another inch of snow, but it has once again started - this is mainly lake effect snow.

Needless to say, we have no school today!  Yay, because now I don't need to take a sick day.  On Friday I woke up feeling like I had literally been hit by a bus.  I had no voice, I had chills, I had a horrendous cough, goopy eyes and achey all over.  Dream Boy called the doctor for me & set up an appointment, to which I dragged myself too.  The nurse practitioner told me it wasn't the flu, but a major sinus infection - sinusitis.  Not contagious, she said.  But it will take 7-10 days to work through.  She finally put me on an antibiotic and sent me on my way.

Not contagious ---- um, yeah right.  Guess who started feeling bad yesterday?  Poor Dream boy has it now too.  So we're both home today, watching the snow fall & laying around in our jammies.

Last night I did manage to get outside with Libbi the Wonder Dog and snapped a couple shots in the dark.  Not great, but here ya go….I wanted you to get a feel of how hard it was snowing.
Poor LtWD - can't barely move around the snow is so deep.  She runs back and forth to make trails to find a place to do her "bidness".
And looking across the street, you can barely make out the lights from our neighbor's living room window.

Today along with the snow, we have to contend with falling temps - below zero falling temps & wind chills.

So, are you a Downton Abbey fan?  I had not watched a single episode of the 1st 3 seasons until last summer.  I finally started watching it online to see what the hype was all about.  Well, I got hooked - easily.  I held off watching season 3 until the 1st of December and over the last month caught up on that so I was ready for the premier last night.  I wasn't disappointed, were you?

For now, before the temps drop anymore (we are currently at 3 degrees Farenheit), I want to bundle up & head out in the back yard with Lucy & a bottle of bubbles.  If it works - I'll post about it later this week!

I hope you have a wonderful Monday and an even better week!  See you all real soon!

Unwritten - Songography Edition

Wasn't sure I was going to make this week's edition, I've been under the weather (literally & figuratively) for the last 3 days.  But this morning I have a little more energy than I had, so here is a "quick" shot of my interpretation.

I am unwritten
Can't read my mind
I'm undefined
I'm just beginning
Pen's in my hand
Ending unplanned

Staring at the
blank page before you
Open up the dirty window
Let the sun illuminate
the words you
could not find

I have always loved this song - always.  I also love to journal, along with my blogging.  I have a brand new journal waiting for me to put pen to paper and write.  No plan - just write, record and relish in the release of all the words.

Want to see more interpretations?  Head over to Kathy's blog and check out the links!

Feet First

Good morning and happy new year to you all.

Did you make it til midnite?  Did you do anything special?

So, feet first?  My post title.  I've been thinking a lot over the last several months and I've been taking notes on how to grow my blog and my group of blogging friends.  I have met so many amazing people over the last 7-8 years that I've been blogging.  I've even had the pleasure of meeting up with a group of them in California for a week, back in 2008.  We still stay in touch.

Feet First - my new meme.  I would love for you to join me on this journey through this year.

Here's what you have to do…….on the 1st day of every month, get a shot of your feet planted firmly or floating in the air or lying on a beach or wherever your journey may find you on that given day.  Blog about it and what is happening in your life on that very day.  Then link back up here with me so we can all "travel the world" together.

It can be a single shot, a collage, a mosaic, or an overlay of sorts.  Whatever your heart desires on that given day.

On the 1st day of January, 2014, at exactly 12:01am, right after kissing my Dream Boy at the stroke of 12 - I found my feet planted on the rooftop of a parking structure.

Dream Boy & I had a wedding to attend.  The reception venue was in our downtown region, so we were sure to park our car on top of the parking ramp so that we would have "front row" seats to the yearly firework display at midnite.

Our long time friends, who we have spent every New Year's Eve with for what seems like forever - met us on top os said parking ramp at 11:45 to await said fireworks.

It was snowing like mad & it was bitterly cold.  But we withstood the elements in the warmth of the car until they beautiful display of color lit up the midnite sky!
This month's link up will be on the 1st - today, um obviously, right?

But after this, I'll be posting on the 2nd of each month to give everyone a chance to take those foot shots on the 1st of the month  & edit, arrange, whatever so that you can link up the next day.

I do hope you'll join me & I would love to see where you travel and walk in the great big world, that actually is quite small.

You can link up below through the little blue button.  Be sure to link back to your blog OR you Instagram page.  Post your pics on Instagram, using #feetfirst2014!  Oh - this is gonna be fun…...
