Random 5 Friday

Dear Summer:

You are fading fast.  Why must you be so quick to end?  While the memories of sunny days on the beach are fading fast........I hold them close to my heart and await those of next summer.

Dear Son #1:

Two weeks.  Only two weeks til you walk down that aisle and make that beautiful girl your wife.  Dad & I are so proud of who you are and who you've become.  Your road together has been a long one and you've learned so much together along the way.  Just remember - keep God at the head of your household and you will ALWAYS be taken care of, good times and bad.
Love you with my whole heart.

Dear Son #2:

Two weeks.  Only two weeks til you come home again from your far away home of Seattle.  I can't wait to see you and hug you and laugh out loud with you about silly things like we always do.  We still do, but it's more fun in person.

Dear Back to School:

Yuck.  Seriously.  Why do you have to happen again already?

Dear Bicycle:

We have a love/hate relationship.  I love that you make my riding easier, but I hate climbing those hills.  I love that you draw me to exercise, I hate that word......"exercise".  I love being able to get up & go out first thing in the morning to conquer the streets/I hate that after school starts I'll have to do my rides at night.

I love that your always there for me/I hate that your always there for me.......

Have a great weekend everyone!

Creative Corner

My Creative Corner is on overload - wedding overload!  My room has been overtaken by tulle, silk flowers, candles, corks, vases, glitter, ribbon, glue, lists upon lists upon lists of "to do's" and so on.

The countdown is T minus 17 days.......

Yesterday I spent the day making the table numbers for the frames.
Now believe me - this was a sacrifice.  I hope my D2B knows how much I love her because I despise glitter, in any form other than glue.  It gets ev.er.y.where and hangs on for days.  By the time I got done cutting & sticking and inserting this glitter card stock I felt like a cheap floozy (to put it nicely).

But they are done & it's one more thing off the "to do" list!!  My list is getting shorter every day, I think.  But then we add one more thing we thought of to it & it adds up again.  Oh well - it's been a great ride & I've truly enjoyed every single minute of it!

Now, off to the lakeshore to do some senior photo sessions!  This one involves TWO senior girls, a merry go round and a prom dress.

Happy Hump DAY!!!

Monday Morning Coffee

Good morning!

How are you today?  Hope you are well?

We had a great weekend.  Friday I spent the day at the lakeshore with some of my former soccer mom's.  We had a beautiful day, the temps on land and in the water (Lake Michigan) were absolutely wonderful.  All 4 of us had boy's play college soccer together & we still keep in touch.

Which brings to mind, if you read my blog post yesterday for "Song-ography", I need to clarify that the shot with the swing is overlooking Lake Michigan, not the ocean.  Beautiful, isn't it???  The saying is "Lake Michigan - salt free & shark free".

Saturday was the Back to School Carnival at our church.  Dream Boy worked the dunk tank & I worked the camera - yep, brought Lucy out to play!  We served 498 hot dogs and gave away 260 backpacks to the neighborhood kids.  It was a beautiful day and a great blessing to the kid's in the neighborhood.

After the festivities we headed to a college soccer game to watch the younger brother of Son #2's college team mate play in his first D1 college game.  Dream Boy & I came home after the game to just chill & watch a movie.

Sunday morning found us at church and then out for breakfast at our favorite little cafe.  Our waiter is a professional dancer and I'm working on setting up a dance lesson for Son #1, D2B, her parents & Dream Boy & I before the wedding.  D2B (daughter 2 be) doesn't want to look "like a couple of 8th graders" dancing their 1st dance together at their wedding.

We puppy sat for Porscha in the afternoon while Son #1 went golfing.  He could have kenneled her while he was gone, but he knows we love having the puppy around.  Libbi, not so much, but she'll have to get used to it.  While they are gone on their honeymoon, she will be staying with us for the whole week.

We went out to the local campground last night to visit some friend's who are camping there for the week.  It was a beautiful evening.

The whole weekend was great and the weather has been absolutely perfect.  I have this last week left before returning back to school.  I am milking it for all it's worth and loving every minute of it!

Hope you have a great week - come back soon!

Song-ography::The Summer Wind

Oh I love me some Frank Sinatra.  I even make my student's listen to the 'ol crooner from time to time.......along with Dean & Sammy & Tony & & &.  They love it when I do that.

"Like painted kites, those days and nights they went flyin' by,
The world was new beneath a blue umbrella sky,
Then softer than a piper man, one day it called to you,
I lost you, I lost you to the summer wind"

"My Fickle Friend - The Summer Wind"
Frank Sinatra

Be sure to head over to You'll Shoot Your Eye Out for many more great interpretations of this song by Frankie.

It's Coming!!!

"The Wedding Day" is fast approaching!  Three weeks from this Saturday we will be legally gaining a beautiful daughter.  Our lives seem to be consumed lately with all the final details to finish & work out.

Here's just a glimpse into the past 3 days.......
Did I forget anyone?   Checking the guest list & checking it twice to be sure we haven't forgotten any name cards..
Even the dad's are getting into the swing of this production!!
See how fast Dream Boy is working??? His hand is a blur gluing those cards in place so fast!
Our girl loves purple.........and we love her!

In the midst of it, I continue to get on my bike and ride.
I love getting up, getting on the gear & just taking off for my ride.  Not sure how that's going to work once school starts.  But I'll have to figure out my groove when the time comes.

Now - off to pick up the matted frame/pic, doctor with the MIL & then on to a senior photo shoot along the lakeshore!!

Creative Corner

I'm working on some ideas for my blog and different posts.  I need to work at posting more regularly than just Sunday & Monday's.  One that has come to my mind is my "creative corner".

If you know me, you know that I have been blessed with a creative side.  I love to rip & tear & get grungy with the paint & ink & paper, amongst other things.  I haven't done too much of this in the past several years due to kids, the store I worked at part time closed up, photography, etc.  But I've spent some time this summer in my creative corner revisiting my need to make schtuff!  So I've decided to try and become more regular with a "Creative Corner" post once a week.  I hope you'll enjoy this time.

This week though, I spent time on Saturday, as I stated at coffee yesterday, working on wedding creations.  I finished up my postcard stash on Sunday and am going to finish painting a set of signs I started earlier this summer.

Last night though, as I was helping Dream Boy with our porch remodel, I thought, "hey, this could be part of my creative corner post!"  I began painting our porch 2 summers ago, and then the project got put on hold for some reason or another.  Dream Boy last week decided to finish up what I started.  Last week we picked out the 2 contrasting colors and he finished painting the front wall and entry door from the garage.  He tore up the all weather carpet that was way beyond it's life span and scraped down the glue and such.  This past weekend he put up a new tin ceiling and painted the trim boards.  Last night we put up the trim board and he put a primer on the floor so we can paint it.

We've got an area rug picked out and I've got ideas running through my head for the wall decor.

Here is where we/he started:

And this is where it is at to this point....
Loving it!!

Monday Morning Coffee

Good Monday morning!

Well this is one of my new tools of trade - my new gear - my new me!  Dream Boy bought me a bike like week as I think I shared last Monday.  I logged over 50 miles on it this past week.  I plan to continue to log even more miles per week as I build up the stamina & leg muscles.

I got a call from the doctor last week after having routine blood draws.  I go in this morning to see him, but there was some elevation in a few things that I can control with diet & exercise and I'm going to do it!  I don't want to live my life on pills if I can control it through other means.

I was a big bike rider when I was in high school and loved it.  I still do, and now with this sweet new ride - I can once again "get on my bike and ride".  While riding yesterday, the song "Fat Bottom Girls" by Queen kept playing through my mind.  Hey, I speak the truth!

Dream Boy has been busy finishing a project that I started 2 years ago.  I painted the inside of our porch - at least the part between the house & the garage.  There's still the rest of it that runs behind the garage.......  Anyhoo, he put up a new tin ceiling this weekend and last night we went & picked up the paint for the floor & the boards for the trimming.  We picked out a new area rug & it's all gonna look so purdy when it's finished!

Nothing like a wedding in a little over 3 weeks and the rehearsal dinner being here to get things rolling along.

Speaking of wedding......
My big sis and my D2B were over for a few hours on Saturday and we put a huge dent in the "to do" list.  Big sis made pew bows - like 14 of them!  I made lamp shades and D2B worked on place cards.  We also solved a few questions on the other centerpieces and all in all had a wonderful afternoon.   It's going to be a beautiful wedding!

So - I'm off to the doctor now & then on to enjoying what's left of my summer vacation.

Have a great Monday!

Song-ography::Baby, We Were Born To Run

I'm a little late to the party this morning, but better being late than not being here at all, right?

I hadn't given it much thought this week, but after reading the lyrics a little closer & perusing through my photo's, I have a few that I think fit my interpretation of some of the lyrics.

"I wanna die with you Wendy on the streets tonight
          in an everlasting kiss"

(This is actually son #1 and daughter 2 be - their wedding is less than 4 weeks away AND her name isn't Wendy, but Melissa.)

"The amusement park rises bold and stark...."

Make sure you head on over to You'll Shoot Your Eye Out to see some more great interpretations!

Creative Corner

Why can't I find a way to make money at home doing what I love doing?  Ugh. I have all these things running around in my head, but not enough time to implement them.

My dream job would be something like Becky Higgins or Ali Edwards and create all day in my in home studio with an occasional appearance on QVC or something like that.

I am thoroughly enjoying my "summer break", albeit only 3 weeks long.  But.I.Love.It!!

So I spent part of my rainy day yesterday making these...
Postcards.

I'm not a big card maker, but I do love making these.  I pull out my scrap drawer and just start playing.

I still have some more to make, love having a stash of these around.

So now to go figure out how to make a million dollars so I can stay at home and play all day.

Monday Morning Coffee

Whoa - that one made me jump!  Thunder that is.

Good morning.  It's a rainy Monday morning and I'm sitting here peacefully drinking my coffee and thinking of what I'm gonna write today.  And BAM!  It made me jump - literally.  If you know me, I don't scare easily, so you know that it was a BIG BAM!

My 1st official day of summer break!  I could have counted Friday, and I did, but I'm counting today to.  Especially since I got to sleep in.  That's why I'm so late posting this morning.  It was divine.

What a wonderful weekend it was.  The weather was perfect - I mean, you couldn't ask for more beautiful weather on a summer day.  The temps were in the upper 70s, the sun was shining all weekend, no humidity.  It couldn't be a better combination.

Dream Boy & I mainly hung around the homestead all weekend, puttering here & there.  Friday night we went to see our niece's perform in their marching band.  They had been at band camp all week & they come home on Friday and give a "teaser" performance.  Their theme this year is "Joy".  Oh my, it was absolutely beautiful.  They play a portion of the hymn "It Is Well" and believe you me, I was choking back the tears.  That hymn holds a special place in my heart and they played it beautifully.

Saturday found us delivering some old furniture to a young mom in need.  A friend of mine contacted me last week that this woman is trying to escape an abusive relationship with her 3 young children.  Did I know anyone who might be able to help out with furnishings?  She will literally be leaving her home with nothing but what's on their backs.  Her children are 4, 6 & 7.  Pray that this all goes well for her & those babies.  She does have a lawyer and a plan, but until it's executed and they are safe, they need our prayers to protect them.

Saturday afternoon we puppy sat with the grand puppy.  Son #1 and D2B had a wedding to go to and she had been kenneled all morning while he worked and she did the bridesmaid thing.  So we said we would keep her while they were at the wedding.  Little Porscha (LP) learned to climb the 2 steps in our living room.  Nothing is safe now!  She's a determined little bugger and is finally learning to stand up to Libbi the Wonder Dog, even though she's no bigger than LtWD's head right now.  Quite entertaining.

She's doing quite well with the kennel training and the house breaking - but can't quite be left for great lengths of time yet.  Hence, the puppy sitting.  We did have Son #1 bring her kennel though as we went out later for a few hours and met up with some friends to celebrate their middle son's new job and soon to be move to Florida for work.  We met at one of the pub's downtown and it felt like a high school reunion for me!  I mean in the sense that a LOT of my former students frequent this particular place.  Much fun and lots of laughter and I got to have my favorite beer, Stella!  I was a bit disappointed that she wasn't served in her Chalise though.  Oh well, it was still Stella!

Sunday morning Dream Boy dropped me at church for praise team practice while he went to visit his mom.  She fell on Saturday afternoon in the parking lot at the gas station and bumped her noggin pretty good.  Since she was alone and was bleeding, they called an ambulance.  DB met her down there, but thankfully it was more of a scrape and no injuries other than that.  She had dropped something and was bending over to get it & lost her balance & down she went.

He came back for services and afterwards we went to our local little place for our weekly breakfast/lunch.  We headed home to enjoy the again, beautiful day.  Dream Boy bought me a new bike the day before, so we loaded them up on the car and headed over to a local trail head.  It's a paved trail that actually leads to Lake Michigan, but I'm not strong enough for that long of a ride yet.  So we rode it into downtown, stopped at the bagel shop for a smoothie & a cookie and then rode back home.  It was about an 8+ mile trip.  Just enough to get my legs back in the rhythm of things and make my bum a little sore from the seat.  Gotta get my bum calloused again!  I have been riding my mountain bike that we bought when we had been married about 2 years.  Dream Boy had put smoothies on it so it rode nicer on the road, but this new one,  baby - it's as smooth as bud-dah riding it!

Well kiddos, my cup is almost empty and I have some rainy day creating to do today.  I knew it was going to be a wet one, so I've got a list of inside activities planned for myself today that I've been wanting to do & with no school, I can!!!

Have an awesome week and be sure to stop back around from time to time!

Random 5 Friday

Dear August Break:

Or should I say, #augustbreak2013 (instagram) - thank you for giving me something to think of every day this month so that I don't have to do the thinking.

Dear Summer School 2013:

Good riddance!  Farewell!  Toodles!  So Long!

Dear Last Days of Summer:

Yes, you have arrived - and I intend on taking full advantage of every moment of them doing anything, everything and nothing I want!

Dear Doctor:

Be gentle with me this morning.

Dear Grandpuppy:

You are so stinking cute.  But you need to grow a little quicker so that you can "run with the big dog" of this house!!

New Addition

I'm lazing around yesterday afternoon - literally.  Watching a stupid movie on Lifetime.  How much more lazy can what get, I ask you?  Not much.

My phone rings, church bells chiming - it's the D2B.  She's giddy with excitement!  Son #1 just called her & they are going to "look" at a baby Corgi that night.  They have wanted one (insert picture of Squints here from Sandlot), for.eh.ver!

Now mind you - they are going to "look".  Who do they think they are kidding?  Around 6pm Son #1 calls.

"Mom, hey."

"Hey."

"I'm going to "look" at a Corgi puppy right now.  You know I'm getting married next month and we have the honeymoon and we'll be gone.  So you'll be able to watch her and help us out, won't you?"

"Well of course!"  said mom.

Apparently D2B didn't tell him of our earlier conversation, so I didn't steal his thunder.  About and hour & a half later I get a text with a picture of my new grand baby girl!

Her name is Porscha - we are ALL in love....
I had to pick her up after school today to puppy sit.  She was so lonely.

So I brought her home to play with her Aunt Libbi the Wonder Dog.  Aunt Libbi is a little worried that she's being replaced.  Not.gonna.happen.Libbi!!

S#1 wanted a Corgi because they're low to the ground.........like all his cars.  Seriously.  D2B just loves having a puppy.

I call her my illegitimate grand puppy as they are not yet legally married.  LOL!

So - off to check out the sleeping baby.

Monday Morning Coffee

Good morning everyone!  I have a new coffee mug compliments of my big sister so that every Monday when I have my coffee, I am truly sharing it with her!  Thank you Pam - I LOVE IT!  (om goodness - I just looked at this again & realized this pic makes me look cross eyed!)

I should totally be heading out the door right now for summer school, but I don't wanna.  It's my last week (thank goodness) and there is a young lady who threw a 25 minute tantrum at the end of class last Thursday because I took her phone.  Oy Vey.  I had to call the superintendent down to help me remove her from the building.  Let's just say she said some pretty horrific things to me & I'm not looking forward to seeing her today.

So on to happy thoughts!

My sisters gave a bridal shower for my lovely D2B on Saturday morning.  It was a beautiful day & we had such a great time.  The bride is glowing more & more each day as the BIG day approaches!!!

Saturday afternoon found me video taping a wedding for a friend from church. I have never done that before.  They supplied the camera - albeit at the last minute - they also supplied the wrong charger on Friday night & the batteries weren't charged.  But they did bring the right adapter to the wedding on Saturday & I believe I got it all.  I haven't tried to download it yet.

Sunday my Dream Boy & I spent the WHOLE day together. Just he & I.  Yep - morning, noon & night.  We went to the beach!  We just relaxed and ate our picnic lunch and read and walked the beach and walked the pier.  On our way home we saw "the naked guy".  I think Dream Boy's retna have been permanently damaged.

Yes - there is a guy in the local beach side town who wears nothing but a "pouch" while doing his yard work!  I couldn't get a picture because I was laughing so hard at Dream Boy's reaction.  He thought it was a woman at first because "the naked guy" had on a flouncy tube top and had long, gray hair!  Nope - it was "the naked guy" and when Dream Boy realized it was "the naked guy", "the naked guy" bent over to pick up something in the yard!   Oh my - I laughed so hard I may have peed a little!

On the way home we picked up 10 pounds of blueberries and then stopped and saw my mom & dad at the cemetery.  We took some blueberries over to Dream Boy's mom and spent some time with her.

Son #1 called while we were visiting and asked "what's for supper"?  So we headed out a little later & picked up some burger and went home & Dream Boy made Bacon Cheeseburger sliders & fries.  Yum.

Son #1 & D2B didn't hang around long, so we cleaned up the kitchen & then took Libbi the Wonder Dog for a walk around the village.  She loves her walks and is so excited - almost as much as when we go to the dock.

All in all - it was a beautiful weekend.  Now off to the classroom.....four more days.  I got this!

Happy Monday all!

Random 5 Friday

Dear Daughter 2 Be (D2B):

Wedding day is fast approaching.  I believe our countdown is now 43 days away!  I Have enjoyed every step of this journey with you and am so thankful that you have included me in so much of the planning.  Shopping with you and your mom this week was so much fun.  Working on centerpieces & place cards together makes me smile from the inside out.  We love you to the moon and back dear D2B!

Dear August Break 2013:

Thank you for the fun photo prompts for this month.  So far 2 days in & I'm 2 for 2.  Giggle, Giggle.....
Day one was breakfast and day two is circles.

Dear Cooler Than Normal Temps:

While I have been very thankful the past 2 weeks for a comfortable classroom, after summer school is done next Thursday you may return to your regularly scheduled summer scorching heat so that the remainder of my summer will be nothing but sunny days, hot temps & afternoons spent on the dock with my Wonder Dog!

Thank You.

Dear Student:

Yes, again.  Your 25 minute tantrum was extremely uncalled for yesterday.  You broke the rules, you must now pay the consequences.

Do NOT make me the bad guy for your mistake.

Do NOT make things up that I said to the "whole class" when none of it is true and you were not even there that day.

Do NOT think you can go through my cupboards & drawers looking for your phone.

Do NOT think I won't call the superintendent to help remove you from my classroom.

But please, learn from this mistake and know that I will hold you and ALL my student's accountable when you break the rules.

Dear Patti.G.Photography:

Wow - are you getting busy.  Remember to always be thankful for the creativity you were blessed with from God.  It is from Him that your gifts have been received.  Remember to shine for Him always!

August Break

I am joining up this month with Susannah Conway on her August Break.  A month of blogging without having to think of what to blog about.

She's made it easy with a prompt for each day and you can even play along on Instagram if you don't blog!  (#augustbreak2013)

Today -- I bring you my breakfast - yes, it is one of champions today!  More like it's not getting my butt out of bed early enough to eat a real breakfast before I go to school kind of breakfast.
I'm so thankful it's Thursday.  That means it's my last day of classes for the week and it means I only have one more week of summer school!

Oh - and I'm going to a friend's after school today to soak up some rays on her beach.  What does it say about your dog when you have to run the blow dryer to open the cup board doors to get out your swimsuit & towel & cover up, and then have to sneak into your other room to stuff it into the bottom of your school bag so she doesn't recognize the beach bag & go insane because she's not going to the lake with you and you don't have to look at her pouty face when you leave the house?

Welcome to my life!
