Monday Morning Coffee

Good morning!  How are you today?  I'm getting excited, I only have 2 weeks left of summer school and then I have 3 weeks off!  YAY!

How was your weekend?  Dream Boy & I did some bike riding together.  We have this great state park less than a mile from our home with beautiful paved roads & wonderful riding trails.

We came home and beat the incoming rain by about 30 minutes & we snuggled in to watch a movie.  We rented "42 - The Jackie Robinson Story".  If you haven't seen it, be sure you do.  It was such a great story, but it still angers my heart & my mind when I think of how ignorant people can be in regards to race.  Ugh, it just boggles my mind that they are still in our world!

Saturday I went garage sale-ing.  Not something I do regularly, if at all.  But I decided to just do it.  I found an awesome matted picture/frame for $3.00!  The matting alone would have cost a fortune - I'm hoping to get a gorgeous black & white shot of the family at Son #1's wedding to put in it.

Saturday night we went to a celebration with our friend's at their catholic parish.  They were celebrating St. Ann - it's also the name of their parish.  They had a pig roast and boy did we eat good.  But the temps dropped and we were home by 10pm it was so cold!  This is July - but it feels like the end of October!

Sunday I sang again in praise team & after church we went out for our weekly breakfast and took our time as it was again pouring outside.  So the afternoon was spent doing what every good Christian Dutch family does on a Sunday - we took naps.  Yum, I love naps.

Son #1 & D2B came over for dinner last night & then we played with wedding schtuff.  We worked on the place cards and have them almost completed.  We went over our shopping list for things still needed & hope to go out this week & gather those items up.  Hard to believe in 6 weeks their big day will be here!

Well - I'm off to school, then home to finish up a book from a recent photo shoot.

Have an awesome Monday & an even better week!

"Here Comes The Sun" - Song-ography

The sun was in & out all week.  The humidity blew away mid week & the temps have plummeted.  It is only 55 degrees out as I write this.

The line in George Harrison's song, "the ice is slowly melting" comes to mind this morning on what I believe is supposed to be a JULY day in Michigan?

I'm not quite ready for fall ------- yet.

Our song this week was "Here Comes The Sun" - as sung by George Harrison.  Loved his music, but honestly, I was a geek - I loved Ringo more.

Okay, enough of my are a few shots from this week that kept the sunshine in my life, even though the clouds have done a great job of hiding it in reality.

 "Sunrise Over The School Yard"

"The Farmer's Wife's Flowers"

Be sure to head over to "You'll Shoot Your Eye Out" and see more of the great pics motivated by this week's song!

Friday - Friday.....

Na, na, na, na, na, na.........
So good to me.....
Na, na, na, na, na, na.........

I like Friday, Friday much better than Monday, Monday.  So now you too, can have this song stuck in your head all day.

You're welcome.

So's time for our letter again.

Dear Weatherman:

Thank you for getting the forecast right this week.  You predicted cooler temps, no humidity and just plain gorgeous weather and you delivered!  I have enjoyed it tremendously!

Dear Man Who Drives The Black Mustang:

No need to get your panties in a bunch!

After all, if you knew how to drive your classic car with a stick shift, you never would have stalled it out in the drive through on the very little incline in front of me causing you to roll backwards and hitting my car.

I only took a picture of your car to get your license plate number IN the event you had actually done damage to my car AND in all actuality - to get you to turn around & acknowledge you hit me & offer an apology.

Maybe next time I WILL call the cops on you!

Did your mother never teach you manners????

Dear Local Farmer:

I love your roadside farm stand.  You have the best sweet corn around these parts.   And the lovely sunflowers your wife grows always make me smile when I see them gracing my kitchen table.

Dear Wednesday Night Wing Night:

You have become a welcomed tradition this summer.  After Dream Boy & his buddy ride their bikes, we all meet up for 1/2 price wings and a beer.  This has been an enjoyable weekly rendezvous!

Dear Dream Boy:

What a delightful bike ride we enjoyed the other night with good friends.  It was a beautiful night for a ride out to the state park and around the lakes and trails.

Coming home to grilled pizza and dinner with our good friends made for a great night!

Have I told you lately that I love you?  I am so enjoying our empty nest time & spending it with you!

Have a happy weekend everyone!

Monday Morning Coffee

Good morning!

It's kind of a gray & dreary, wet morning here, another night of angry storms.  But again, we were spared.  Parts of our area got hit pretty hard on Friday night & were still without power yesterday.  Then another band came through twice last night.

The good news is, it did cool it down a bit - for now.  But alas, it is still July & it is still Michigan.

So what are you up to today?  I'm heading off to summer school shortly.  I only have 3 weeks left.  Phew.  I must say I have never had a more challenging year of summer school, such as this one.  The kid's don't get that they to complete their courses in time.  They want me to bend the rules just this once for them.  But I won't.  I can't.  I have never had so many parents call, email, Facebook & actually come see me as I have this summer!  I have drama between 2 girls, one who dropped the program & isn't even in class anymore & it's all because of a rift between their dads!  Seriously, aren't we a little old for all of this?

I've been doing a lot of this over the summer.......
Kicking back, upside down, on the chaise lounge, or as they say on Downton Abbey, "Chaz Long".   Love that show.

Did I tell you I watched the 1st 2 seasons in June, but I'm holding out for season 3 until later this winter - just before the new season starts in January?

I spent part of my weekend doing a family photo shoot.  It was SO hot!  The weatherman clearly lied as he said it was supposed to be a cooler day.  Okay, it was in the upper 80s instead of upper 90s, the humidity was a gone, but it was dang hot!!!  I'll spend this week editing the shots.

I finally joined our praise team at church & sang yesterday.  Haven't done that in over 3 years & I really enjoyed it.  Good to be back.

Well, off to summer least it will be tolerable in there today.  I've had the superintendent and the board president both tell me they will look into the matter - but no word on a solution from either yet.

Happy Monday my friends!

Songography - Up On The Roof

I'm taking creative license with this week's song.  Kathy, you said we could, so I am.

Now that that's settled....

The song this week is "Up On The Roof" by James Taylor.  It's been running through my mind & I have grand visions of climbing up on my roof & taking this silhouette shot of me & my Dream Boy with the moon shining brightly in the far away sky.  But it was just too dang hot to sit on a shingled roof this week!

So you'll have to settle for my "take" on the lyrics & song this week.

When this old world starts a getting me down,
And people are just too much for me to face,
I'll climb way down to the bottom of the stairs,
And all my cares just seem to drift out onto the lake.

Okay - okay, I changed those last 2 lines to fit my whim, but the dock is at the bottom of the stairs & this is where I go with Libbi the Wonder Dog to clear my head and just not think.  To sit in the quiet and feel the presence of the world around me.  The great big world, and just me & my dog, sitting on that dock, not a care in our minds at that given moment.

No cares, no worries, no people in my face, just a girl and her dog and a place to sit, and swim, and dream.

"It's peaceful as can be.....
And there the world above don't bother me......"

Random 5 Friday

Dear Weather in Michigan:

You are a hot one this week!  But alas, it is summer & it is Michigan.  This is typical.  So to all you of you who grumble & complain, seriously?  Why?  This is how it has been forever & ever & ever.  Just like the cold, sub zero, blowing snow, mind numbing cold every winter.  To you I say, "get over it."

Dear iPhone From Son #2:

How fun you are!  Thank you Son #2 for this gift.  I find myself taking even more pictures, if that's even possible, but I love that because I have so many more to actually choose from for my Project Life.

I am totally hooked on the Instagram craze - yeah, I'm late to the party, but whatever.  Follow me at pattilin60.

Dear Heat In The Kitchen:

Yes, I'm making it even hotter in there this morning, but I really want some black raspberry scones!  It's just for a little while & the promise of a cool front coming through this afternoon will cover any heat I've added as of this morning, right?

Dear Window Shakers:

I'm grateful for you this week.  Not have a home with central air, you have been a welcome noisey intrusion this week.  You have helped us sleep better & kept us cooler throughout the house.  Thank you.  But honestly, I do love it better when I can wake up with open windows listening to the birds banter back & forth.

Dear Daughter 2 Be:

What a fun night we had at Michael's the other night looking for wedding schtuff!  I so adore you & am so thankful for where our relationship has gone and praying for where it is headed.  You are a blessing to our family and I  love you bunches!

Tuesday Muse - Deanna

I have been spending some time this summer working on my photography skills - both taking & editing.  I've had some pretty happy "mistakes" and I the more I play, the more I want to learn.

There are many blogs I follow that are photography related & have helped me tremendously in this growing process.  Also through these blogs, I've managed to "meet" some amazing people, some are close enough that we will one day meet in real life.  No doubt.

It's funny how reading one blog can link you to another one & then another one and so on.  I find myself every couple of months going through my reading list and deleting those that I haven't read or they have kind of quit posting, so that my list stays manageable.

But there are 2 that I won't delete.  A Rural Journal and Snippets in Springdale.  Now I came upon Nancy's blog through Deanna and I learn so much from both of them and find such inspiration in their work.

Nancy has a couple of meme's - one of which I participate in quite regularly on Friday.  She also has one on Tuesday's, called "Tuesday's Muse" where she shares a texture (free) to use in your photo editing.  This week's texture is called Deanna & it is named in honor of my other blogging friend from Snippets.

Deanna & I don't live too far apart.  We're within driving distance and we are truly going to make an effort to meet soon.

So I thought I'd give Nancy's "Deanna" texture a try today & this is my end result:
I thought this picture was very appropriate as Deanna loves cherries and is a Christian.

I took this shot the other night while doing my Bible Study & Dream Boy brought me a snack of Rainier Cherries.  My favorite!

Thank you to both of you beautiful ladies for your continued inspiration!  But now, it is time for me to take LtWD (Libbi the Wonder Dog) to the dock so that we can both cool off in this sweltering summer heat.  The lazy, hazy days of summer sure have arrived in Michigan!

Monday Afternoon Tea - Make Mine Iced w/ Lemon Please

It's a hot one out there today with promises of it getting only hotter as the week progresses.

Sorry I missed coffee with you this morning - but I had to take off for school early to set up for my 2nd session of summer school.  Only 4 more weeks to go.  Without air-conditioning.  In a room full of computers and sweaty teenage bodies to go along with the 26 computers putting out even more heat that their puberty engrossed bodies.  Nice word picture, eh?  You're welcome.

So let's have a glassed of iced tea with some lemonade mixed in to refresh & quench our thirsty little selves, shall we?

The collage above is a snapshot of my week last week & our weekend.  Oh the days of summer - go too fast & gone too soon.

Row 1 - Libbi the Wonder Dog (LtWD) doing her Marley impersonation - home pedicure - dressed up with the Dream Boy for a wedding Saturday night.

Row 2 - One of the many corks I'm using for wedding placecard holders - Dream Boy bought me a bag of Rainier Cherries to munch on - Fish taco's and mango salsa.

Row 3 - Sunday morning breakfast - LtWD & me at the dock - a four wheeling trek through the woods at a friend's house.

I am taking full advantage of my time off in whatever way I want.  Can you tell?  Still so much to do & not enough time.  But enjoying it thoroughly!

I whined to the superintendent, the board president, the head of maintenance and my principal today about no air conditioning in my classroom.  I whined that the sup's office has it and that the primary has it in the classroom's they are teaching summer school in, so why shouldn't we?  I can't believe after 4 years of suffering my superintendent finally said that he & the maintenance guy are going to try & work out a solution in the next day or two.

Fingers crossed.

But for now, I'm holed up in my creative corner with LtWD cooling down & playing around with wedding schtuff.  I've got to go, my glue gun is dripping away and calling my name!

Thanks for stopping by - come back soon and stay cool!

Sunday, July 14, 2013

If you hadn't noticed, I fell of the Scavenger Hunt bandwagon at the beginning of summer.  I've followed this meme for over a year & have enjoyed it, but I got to the point where it was becoming repetitive for me & I wasn't finding any fun in it any more.

So I've taken a bit of a vacation from the photography challenges, until now.  Kathy, who is an extremely witty lady from Philly, not to mention a phenomenal photographer, has started this new Sunday Meme called Song-ography.  Every Sunday you can hook up with her at You'll Shoot Your Eye Out and follow along or maybe even join up!

The prompt for your photo comes from a song, which plays in Kathy's head.  Hmmm --- she & I have a lot in common.  I refer to the voices in my head as music too!  HA!

So, without rambling on any more......this week's song is by Simon & Garfunkel - "Homeward Bound"..
Not my best work - taken on my iPhone.  But nonetheless - this is my interpretation of "homeward bound" this week.  Most Sunday's after church, Dream Boy & I head down to Main Street Cafe for breakfast.  It's a little hole in the wall been there forever homey kinda restaurant and it reminds me somewhat of "Cheers", a place where everyone knows your name!  Your waiter sits down next to you to take your order and talks about his upcoming vacation or the dance classes he's teaching or what is happening with the family.

Now head over to Kathy's blog & check out her interpretation & click on the links of all the others!  You'll be greatly amused and pleasantly surprised I'm sure....

Friday Letter's (Random 5 Friday)

Dear Friday:

Thank you for the beautiful sunshine & cooler morning temps today.  These are the days of summer I love to no end!  Also - you have never been more welcome to arrive than you were today.

Dear Backyard:

While I can take some credit for your beauty, Dream Boy deserves more.  But alas, the lillies - those are my favorites & your beauty is in abundance this summer.  Thank you.

Dear Parents and Grandparents:

I do have a life outside of my classroom.  If your student had been doing their work all along for the past 4 weeks, there wouldn't be this panic now to finish.  Please.  STOP.CALLING.ME. at home!  Seriously annoying.

Dear Daughter 2 Be:

I know it was an inconvenience for the power to go out on your birthday at your house.  But it was a pure Joy to have all of your family relocate here for your birthday celebration.  Loved shopping for a girl for a change and that you loved my selections.  Love you and your mama too!

Dear Body:

I truly am tired of you not cooperating and making me feel less than myself.  I truly hope the tests yesterday will give me a reason of why you are not happy & that the doctor can give me some positive information next Friday.  Oh, the joys of getting older!

Monday Morning Coffee

Can you guess how we celebrated part of our long weekend?

I'm off to school in a rush today - a major update was done to the web based program our kids work on for summer school over the 4th and let me just say, it didn't go well.

I've received numerous phone calls, emails, texts & facebook messages and I can't do anything to fix it other than contact the company.  Which I did. Twice.
So off to school to put out some fires if that's at all possible.

We didn't do a whole lot for the majority of the weekend as I've not been feeling well for over a week now.  I've been on antibiotics since Wednesday which has helped relieve some of the issue, but I still have some other's that I believe I'll need to call the doctor about.  I just don't feel "right", know what I mean?

We did rent a movie Saturday night & order in pizza.  The pizza was great, the movie - not so much.  We rented "Identity Thief" - glad we only paid to rent it & didn't buy tickets in the theatre.

I started painting again yesterday - something to hang out on our fence.  Kind felt good to get my hands dirty in the paint again.  I'll be sure to share the finished product.

My nephew got engaged this weekend!  So excited for him & his girl.  He was so sweet when he called me to tell me.  It surprised me, but I knew how excited he was because he made the call.  So another family wedding will be happening next year!

I really gotta run - get to school & see what hornet's nest may be awaiting me. Thanks for stopping by.  I'll be back soon.

Oh - I almost forgot.  I still have the heebie jeebies & I can't imagine why I forgot.  I found a tick on the body wash bottle in the shower this morning.  Can you say GROSS???

Friday = Funday

Yesterday I did a bunch of errands, you know...haircut, grocery shopping, gassing up the car.

In the late afternoon I had the privilege of doing some of my niece's senior pics.  Can't believe my little piglet is going to be a senior this fall.

Here are 2 of my favorites from our session:

Oh my goodness!  Where has the time gone from when she was dressed up in her little piggy costume I made her for halloween to being this grown up beauty - inside & out?

Then last night we went over to some friend's house where they put on quite the firework display!   Yowza!

Who knows what's on the agenda for today - summer time is great!  No schedules - no alarm clock (for me anyways) - no worries.

What I Did On The Fourth of July

I spent a quiet day with my Dream Boy.

He went for a bike ride in the morning & I sat outside & read.

The soft summer breezes, the quietness of the neighborhood, the warm temps.  This IS summer.

We took Libbi the Wonder dog to the dock in the afternoon & just sat & enjoyed the time together.  It was great!

We came home, cleaned up & then went & bought some fresh shrimp & pineapple, along with peaches & ice cream.  We grilled the shrimp & pineapple for dinner & then the peaches for dessert.  Yummmmmmm.

No fireworks for us last night, but we are going tonite.  So Lucy & I will be trying out techniques for capturing those sparkles in the sky.

Hope you all had a safe holiday.  Enjoy your weekend!

God Bless America!!!

Land that I love!
Stand beside her,
and guide her,
through the night,
with a light from above!

From the mountains,
to the prairies,
to the oceans,
white with foam!

God Bless America ~ my home, SWEET, home.

May we all remember those who gave so much for the freedom we enjoy every day.

Have a safe and happy 4th of July!!

Happy Hump Day!!!

Seriously - have you seen the new Geico commercial with the camel??  What a riot!  You have to watch it now.......go ahead, I'll wait!

SO freaking funny!   Hump DAAaaaAAYY!!!   Mike-Mike-Mike......what day is it??

It's also a beautiful day in my neighborhood too.  The sun is finally shining & the temps are so amazing.

Just a few things that made me very happy on Tuesday.  I got home from school and found a package on the back step.  I opened it up & it was from my friend in Naperville, Stacey.  I had put out a request last week on facebook for all my wino friends to save their corks for my son's upcoming wedding.  We're making placecards holders with them.

Stacey sent me a bag full of corks!  What a gal, always ready & willing to rise to the challenge.

Then Dream Boy comes home from work last night all excited.  He proceeds to tell me that he won another contest on his favorite talk radio station that morning.  He had to answer the question, "Name the 5 Great Lakes in order of size starting from largest to smallest".  He's a geography nut - so he dials in AND wins!  He heads over to the station after work to pick up the prize, thinking it's a free lunch somewhere, like usual.

Na - uh!  It's a $125.00 gift certificate to a jeweler in downtown!!  Oh my - he was SO excited and couldn't wait to give it to me!!  All for me!!!  Mama's going shopping today.

Then Son #2 calls last night & his girlfriend landed a dream job in Seattle!!!  She is moving at the end of the month.  They have lived far apart since graduating college over a year ago & now they can begin to plan for their future.  So excited for them!

Well - I'm off for a doctor's appointment & then to the jewelry store.

Happy 4th of July to all my American friends.   Let FREEDOM ring!!!

Monday Morning Coffee

Well, hello there.

Have you missed me?  What can I say - it's summer time and I'm just enjoying my time and my relaxed school schedule.

I really haven't been doing a whole lot - just reading & creating & spending time with my family.

Yep - son #2 was in town for a very brief visit - but it's better than none at all. We all spent Saturday night at home having dinner together.  Then D2b & I spent time on the computer looking at what else - wedding stuff.  :)  And Dream Boy & his boys talked about cars & life & whatever else.  We just enjoyed being together!

I came up with idea for wedding place cards.....
.....and D2b loves them.  So we're going to have a "puttin together party" sometime this week.  I've put out a plea to all my wine connoisseur friends (aka - wino's) to save & send me their corks.  I've gotten some pretty interesting comments in regards to this plea.  Funny thing one has said no, but they will all be very happy to oblige!

We've had a bit of rain off & on for the past 3-4 days & LtWD has a bad ear infection - so we haven't spent much time on the dock.  But we still have plenty of time to take advantage of the summer days ahead.

Do you have plans for the 4th?  We never make any, but always end up doing something.  We have some friends who have invited us to their house for fireworks this year as their plat has a huge display every year.

So I'm off to week 3 of summer school.  Boy do my chillun's have a whole LOT of work to do in the next 2 weeks to earn their credits!!   I do believe that they just think some magic fairy is going to sprinkle her pixie dust & it will be done!  I've had to have a few "lectures" with them......but it hasn't - so far - done a whole lot of good.

Please forgive my lack of posting, but I promise I haven't forgotten any of you & your loyalty.  I will try & do better at being more regular again with my posting this summer, but if I'm not - just know I'm really enjoying my summer time!

Love you all!
