Monday Morning Coffee

Did you see it?  The SuperMoon?   I didn't - it was too cloudy & then when I woke up at 6am, because it was supposed to it's closest to us at 7:30am EDT - it was sunny & I didn't feel like getting up & driving west to chase a moon I may or may not see in the sun.

So it peaked out last night - a bit hazy - but I tried a few shots.  This was on my tripod so you can see the haze around it.

How was your weekend?  I had a lovely one, albeit was a little too muggy for me.  I'm not going to complain about the temps - but when you are just sitting & you are melting in your chair, it's too muggy.

Anywhoooooo ---- we brought in the summer with friends.  Dream Boy & his buddy went Blue Gill fishing Thursday night & we had a fish fry on Friday.  I ate chicken salad.....not a big fan of fish.  I'll eat some - but not much.

I made potato salad, white wine sangria, shrimp pizza w/ Mango Curry Sauce & cupcakes.  Everything was so yummy - every.thing!   The white sangria was the perfect summer toasting drink!

Did you know that on the 1st day of summer and the 1st day of fall you can stand an egg on either end & it will stay?   True story.  I tried it again on Saturday & it wouldn't stay.

Saturday I went to my D2B bridal shower.  What a lovely time we all had - and there were a whole lot of us.  It was her side of the family & all of her bridesmaids.  She & Son #1 got so many beautiful gifts & it was so fun to see this step happening.  I love how much they love each other & how good they go together.  They have dated since high school and have gone through some pretty bad places, but they have come through it all stronger & better.  I believe they are going to have a long, happy marriage.  Makes this mama's heart so happy.

Sunday was church and then breakfast, where Son #1 & D2B happened to show up & join us.  Afterwards, Dream Boy & I stopped & picked up a couple of floating blow up rafts & D2B & I went to the dock with LtWD for an afternoon of "beating the heat".  Phew - the dew point level was even higher!

So off to summer school for week #2.

Have an amazing day - and a better week!

Random 5 Friday

1.  Dear Summer:
It's official - you have finally arrived!  LtWD (Libbi the Wonder Dog) & I had
our 1st dock day yesterday.  What a GREAT afternoon we had!

2.  Dear State of Washington:
It's official - Son #1 is now truly one of your own.  He has an official driver's
license bearing your name.   Please be kind to him.

3.  Dear Dream Boy:
I am SO glad you are finally feeling better.  Your bout with the stomach flu
last week that hung on for 5 days was truly hard on us both.

4.  Dear Lucy:
Oh the dreams I have been having about what you & I can do together this
summer.  The images that come to my mind literally in my dreams - now
to make them happen and for them to turn out as I've imagined.
This one is just the beginning.....

5.  Dear Summer School Students:
I am here to help you, yes.  But I am not here to do your work for you.  I
not a math whiz - have never claimed to be - but will do what I can.  It is
up to YOU to pay attention to the instruction you get from your online
teacher & take thorough notes.  Believe me when I tell you over & over &
over, they do not put questions on quizzes/tests that they did not cover in
     their lecture.  It'!!

What random thoughts are running through your mind on this Friday?  I'm linking up with Nancy at A Rural Journal today - you can head over there to see
other's random thoughts too!

Have a beautiful weekend my friends!

Monday Morning Coffee

It's summer - and I'm a little late posting this week, but I slept in.  I can do that now ya know.

It's summer - but that doesn't mean school's out.  At least not for me.  Summer School begins again this morning.

It's summer - and Son #1 is still letting me drive his Lexus.  He says he doesn't care - as long as he has a car to get to work.  Okay.

It's summer - Dream Boy started it out with a horrendous case of the stomach flu.  Poor guy, he finally was able to get out & about yesterday, just in time for Father's Day.

It's summer - time to brew a big batch of Pioneer Woman Iced Coffee.  Yup.

It's summer - we took LtWD (Libbi the Wonder Dog) to the dock yesterday for a swim & a bath.  Poor girl, she can't walk to good this morning after all that exercise.  I can sympathize with her.

It's summer - and as I write this next to my open window, I'm enjoying the songs & chatter of the birds.  Is it me, or are they just overabundant this year & have lots to say???

Time for me to go beat teach some sense into some kids.  Lucky me.

Have a great week!

Happy Father's Day

To my dad - Happy Father's Day.  I miss you so much, but am thankful that God gave me you as my dad.  The memories I have carry me through & your belly laugh is always present in my mind.
Love you...

To my Father-In-Law - the hurt is still so raw for us.  You've barely been gone from this earth a month.  Thank you for the son you raised who became my husband and dad to 2 of the most amazing sons.  Your laughter still rings in our ears!

To my Dream Boy - you are an amazing man.  You are so devoted to us, your family.  Your unending love, your patience, your ability to fix anything and everything, your love for God.
You have been the best role model I could ever have hoped for in raising our two sons together.  We have been so blessed in our life together & our sons have grown into two amazing men because of your direction in their lives.
I love you to the moon & back & beyond Dream Boy.

It's Official - Summer IS Here!

My sister's and I are beach girls.  We love the sandy shorelines of Lake Michigan & any ocean.

For several years, mainly since our mom died 7 years ago - we have made it a tradition to go to the beach on the 1st Friday we get out of school.  My nieces and I have gone every year & my sister's join us whenever they are able to get off work.

This was one of those years.  All 5 of us loaded up in Son #1's Lexus (yes, I'm still driving it) and headed to the shores of Lake Michigan, our favorite beach.  It was a beautiful, not a cloud in the blue sky kind of day.  We shared snacks, we caught up on what's happening with each other and we laughed & laughed as we remembered silly stories of our kids' growing up.

I love this day - I look forward to it every year.  It is my official sign that summer is here.  Bring it on!

Another sign of summer?   My reading list grows.  I am fortunate to work in a high school with an awesome library - my reading habit can be fed without paying a dime.  Love that!

Here is my current stack of reading material for this summer.  Four of the books, the 2 by Jodi Picoult (one of which I've already read) and the 2 in the middle were picked out for me by 2 of my student's.  The top 2 are one's that have bee waiting for me.  This will keep me busy for a few week' least.

Dream Boy has been home since Wednesday with a nasty, nasty stomach bug. Tonite he finally said something smelled good that I was making for my dinner. That is a HUGE turn around the corner for him, as nothing - absolutely nothing sounded or smelled good to him.  Poor guy.  I honestly can't remember the last time he has been this sick.

With him laying low & not much on t.v., I've spent the last few nights watching online, (finally), Downton Abbey.  I'm 3 episodes into the 1st season & I'm thinking I'm hooked.  I'm beginning to see what all the hullaballoo has been about over the last few years.

So - I'm off to read one of those books - or watch another episode of the Abbey.........or both.

Have a GREAT weekend!

Project Life Catch Up

It's been a looooooooong time since I've posted my Project Life.  I got a little behind, and still have a few week's to catch up on, but hey - it's summer break & I have the time now, right?

So, I thought I'd catch you up on this little thing I call, "My Life"......

A fun little toy ---- Pig Popper.

Snow on the 1st day of spring.
Week 13::  A touch of spring on the kitchen table.
                 Palm Sunday.
A sure sign of spring - The Root Beer Stand opens!
Week 14::  This deserves two full pages!  I surprised my nieces with a train ride
during spring break into Chicago.  The 1st thing we saw was The
Bean!  We did a lot of walking and had a wonderful day!
Week 15 & 16::  Spring flowers popping up.
                        Some cute new shoes.
A modern dance performance at a local theatre.
My boys surprising Dream Boy with a new bike.
Week 17::  Emergency root canal.
Maiden ride on the new bike.
Prepping & packing for my 11th annual Senior Trip to Florida.
Week 18::  Senior trip fun - Busch Gardens, Sea World, Aquatic, Dave &
                Mock Prom Disaster at school.

So there's an abbreviated look at my life through the 1st of May - now to get busy & get caught up so I don't fall behind again!

Have a great day & thanks for stopping by.

Let It Rain

Batten down the hatches maties.  We could be in for quite a wild night of storms.  We're right on the edge of what the NWS is saying could be pretty rough.

Thoughts are with my friends in the Chicagoland area - they could see the worst of it.

This shirt is courtesy of Son #2 who now lives in Seattle and sent it home with his dad after the recent move.  With the weather we've had this week, it's been very appropriate to wear!

Stay safe everyone.  I'm enjoying my 1st day off for summer vacation, although Dream Boy is quarantined to the bedroom, he woke up in the middle of the night with the stomach flu.  Been there & done that, don't wanna go there again.

Happy Wednesday!

Monday Morning Coffee

Well, good morning!   And it is good.  I have 2 official 1/2 days left of this school year and then it is summer vacation!  For 3 days anyways, I start summer school next Monday - but it's so much more relaxed & only 4 mornings a week.

I am so ready for summer, can you tell?  I've got plans for this week to fill my time off & they are fun ones.  Dinner out with a friend & maybe even Shipshewana if I can convince her.  Wedding planning at the reception venue with D2b & her mom.  Then on Friday - a yearly tradition.......BEACH DAY!!!  For about 7-8 years now, my nieces and I celebrate the start of summer by going to the BIG lake, Lake Michigan for the day on our 1st Friday off after we get out of school.  Sometimes my sister's join us & sometimes not - I think they both are planning on going this year.  Bonus!

Our weekend was spent around the house landscaping.  After years & years, Dream Boy & I finally came up with a plan for the area directly in front of our living room & put it into action yesterday.  It's lovely.

Saturday night was spent at a lovely "garden party" as I call it.  It was a graduation open house celebration for our friend's youngest daughter.  We were there for hours & outside.  The night was splendid & the mosquitoes even gave us a break & stayed away for the most part.  So fun & the food, oh my - divine.

Sunday night we skyped with the boy who now lives across the world - in Seattle.  We talked for about an hour & had a great talk. I love how technology can make it seem that the miles between us are not so far.

Well, I'm off to meet my girls for Monday Morning Prayer Time - hope you have a splendid day!

Random 5 Friday

Dear Son #2:

Thank you for knowing your mama wants to know more about your new world and sharing pics from your iPhone that you take on your bike rides.

Dear Student 1 & 2:

Thank you for selecting my summer reading for me from the high school library.  The 4 books you chose, I'm afraid, will possibly be done before the end of July.  But it's a good start.

Dear Michigan Weather:

Please make up my mind.  Is it going to be hot and stay hot, even warm?  Or am I going to be wearing jeans and sweatshirts all.summer.long???

Dear Son #1:

I can't wait for you to drop your Lexus off to me tonite for me to drive for the weekend.  I promise to possibly give it back upon your return.

Dear Last 3 Days of School:

I am so happy you're here!  However brief my summer break is before summer school starts - I am SO glad to have the time off so that I can play more in my creative corner & get caught up on some long over due projects.

Linking up with A Rural Journal.

Monday Morning Coffee

Like my pretty toes?  Compliments of my D2b (daughter-in-law to be).  She gave me a pedicure for Mother's Day - so we went together Saturday morning & had "deluxe" pedi's.  Complete with a sea scrub leg massage and then a wax dip for out tootsie's.  Oh my - my feet haven't felt so silky smooth in such a long time.

Dream Boy comes home tonite.  He & Son #2 made it to Seattle on Saturday & got him all settled in.  They had some pretty tricky weather driving through Wyoming last Friday - winds of 35 - 50 mph and lots of rain.  White knuckling it they said while trying to drive a 14' moving van towing a trailer w/ a car on it wasn't ideal driving circumstances.  But he's there & he can now start digging into his new job & getting acclimated to his surroundings.

I kept myself busy all weekend since they left.  Baccalaureate on Thursday night and it actually went very well.  I was worried right up until it was time as this class is not the best at planning things in advance.  Best of luck to them in their futures.  LOL!

Friday morning I found myself back at school helping with graduation rehearsal and then back that night for graduation itself.  The storms that were predicted stayed away, but the high humidity didn't & it was so hot in that gym!!   Yes, our school has air conditioning, but the current superintendent doesn't find it cost effective to run it, so we suffer.

Saturday started with pedi's & then lunch with my girl.  We met back up at my house in the afternoon with my big sister and a family friend to discuss flowers & centerpieces.  We had a lot of success & a lot of fun.  D2b seemed very happy with the decisions that we made.

Later that night she & Son #1 came back & cooked out with me for supper.  They hung around before heading off to a late movie.  Phew - I was exhausted!

I went to church Sunday morning and then treated myself to my favorite summer restaurant = Root Beer Stand!  The best chili cheese dogs and root beer EVER!  You know the kind of place, you drive up, roll your window down part way & order.  They hang your tray on your window and you eat in your car.  Love it!

I came home & spent the rest of the day all by myself - watching movies, editing pictures, taking a nap & hanging out with LtWD (Libbi the Wonder Dog).

So off to school this morning & then on to Detroit to pick up my Dream Boy.

One more thing - Happy Birthday to my dad today in heaven.  He would have been 79.  I love you dad & miss you every day.

I hope you have a wonderful Monday & a great week to follow.

Until next time!!
