It's Beginning To Look A Lot Like Christmas.....

Just playing around this weekend with some photos recently taken of our family!  Dream Boy doesn't want this to be our official card - so I'm still working on that, but I think it's & still wanted to share it with all of you!
Can you believe that tomorrow is December 1st?
First & foremost, my baby sister turns 40 - happy birthday to Robin!
Next - that means only 24 shopping days left.  Have you started yours, finished yours, don't have a clue & don't want to think about it?
I went out shopping a little last Friday - mainly for Dream Boys' birthday gift.  But I did snag a few little treasures for a certain family member's Christmas basket.......
It's been warm again yesterday & today, but the weatherman says it's supposed to cool way down into the 30's by tonite & possible snow for tomorrow.  I'm ready for it, it's time!

A Little Thanksgiving Video.....

Let's see if this works??
We've been eating & eating again and enjoying our weekend.  We spent Thanksgiving at my sister's house & I took my computer.  I just knew my nieces, especially Kylie, would love playing with photo booth.
So I played with my computer some this morning & put this video together to share a little of our time together as family & the fun my niece had with photo booth.
Hope you enjoy!
It's Dream Boy's birthday today so I'm gonna go bake him some cookies and then tonite we're going out to eat to celebrate!

1. What is your holiday wish for your family?
To continue our family tradition of spending time together & creating more memories.  Being together with my boys' & hubby that day & then my sisters' is something I cherish every year.
2. What is your Christmas morning tradition?
When the boys' were little they couldn't enter the living room until we cut the ribbon Santa had left across the doorway!  Now that they are older & one is in his own home, things are a little different - but one that carries on always is that we snuggle down with hot chocolate or coffee while opening gifts & then Dream Boy fixes a big breakfast of omelets!
3. If you could ask Santa for one, completely decadent wish for yourself, what would it be?
A Nikon D3S camera - mmmmmmm........
4. How do you make the holidays special without spending any money?
Changing how I decorate the house every year.  I have a few treasured items my mom made years ago, a nativity set and a ceramic Christmas tree that lights up.  I alternate them every year & they are always put in a different place of honor.
5. What games did you play with your family growing up?
Operation and a neighborhood favorite in the summer months was "Bloody Murder" outside while the parents sat on someone's front porch & the kids' played this form of "hide & seek" in the dark!
6. What holiday tradition have you carried on from your own childhood?
Baking Christmas cookies and making mom's fudge.
7. Where would you go for a Christmas-away-from-home trip?
I don't like being away for the holiday's - home is where Christmas is & that's where I want to be.
8. Check out GameStop (link to: http://bit.ly/gamestop10) and tell us, what are the three top items on your GameStop Wish List this year?

Happy Thanksgiving

Happy Thanksgiving everyone!
I am so excited to spend the day with my sister's & their families, my hubby's parents, my boys' & their girls, and my friends from my childhood whom I've stayed in touch with throughout the years.
In all there will be about 25 of us feasting & laughing & playing together.
I'm also so excited because our friend is bringing the old family vacation movies from when we were all little!!
I'm also thankful as this Sunday will mark 2 years of being cancer free!  I remember all too well my Thanksgiving 2 years ago, filled with anxiousness & unknowns as I was going back into surgery the next day to have the rest of my thyroid removed after they found cancer 2 weeks before on the 1st half they removed.
I am thankful that my recovery was so easy compared to so many others who have to suffer through so much more to fight their cancer.  But nonetheless, when you hear the "C" word - it's a scary thing & changes you in so many ways.
I am blessed - I know that & I give thanks to my God every day for all He has given me and done for me.
I really hope that you enjoy your day with whomever you choose to spend it with.

I left the house Friday morning with the intent of making it home before Dream Boy.......but first I had to do this....
....and I made sure I had this with me in case I got stuck waiting for a train & had something to read......I also had my grocery list with me with the intent of doing my shopping so I didn't have to go out again that night......
 .....1st stop was here.......
....for some odds & ends that I needed & knew it would be easier to find here than at the grocery store.....
.....next stop was at the DMV to renew license plates for all of our vehicles.  Gotta love the self help kiosk to do this so you don't have to stand in line for hours to get your new tabs.
Then I treated myself to lunch & a little reading time at Sonic.
Then off to the grocery store.........on my way home Dream Boy called, he was home!  He beat me!
So we made a deal that we would put the lights up together on Saturday......
The day was beautiful & I know we've never had our lights ups this early in the year - ever before!  We spent the afternoon putting up the lights & when we were done we realized that this peak was bare.  So off we went to Hobby Lobby where they had all their greenery 50% off.
Dream Boy strung the lights on it this morning & we went out & put it up. It looks so pretty.  We were both glad that we did the lights yesterday as the weather is gloomy, drizzly, damp & cold today.
Thanks Dream Boy - it's been so long since we put up lights, but you've made me one
Happy Mama!
You know what they say....
"happy wife - happy life!"

To Do List

I've had 2 days off from school this week for parent-teacher conferences.  I have so much I want to get done!
Yesterday I made a trip to Hobby Lobby in the morning & bought some items needed for a few Christmas gifts that are plaguing my brain.  I had every intent of working on them all weekend, or at least yesterday.
But I met 2 friends, who are becoming very dear to me, for lunch at Panera.  As usual, when we meet, we talk......and talk.....and talk.  Finally after 4 hours of visiting we left.  I still needed to stop at the grocery store, but since it was so late I ended up just getting what I needed for dinner last night.  So getting groceries is still on the "to do list".
Here are a few more things, along with the creative plague in my brain that needs to get started.....that I need to do today..
While cleaning the other day & vacuuming under my bed to catch all the dust bunnies that multiplied since.....well.....they're bunnies, right?  They multiply over night.......'nuf said.
Anyways, I came across a favorite toy of Libbi's.  She's had this tug toy since she was a puppy & was in heaven with the rediscovered toy.  But, it has sorely shown it's signs of aging & the rubber was starting to get sticky & crackly.  We had 2 days of fun until last night it ripped into a million gazillion pieces.  So I've added a new one to the shopping list.

I must say that being empty nesters the laundry detail has cut down considerably......but nonetheless, it still needs to be done.  So I'm finishing up a load of jeans & then the bedding needs to be washed.
Then there's this chore.  It may look like a tangled mess, but actually all the strings are individually tied, so they pull right out of the tub.  But I need to figure out which ones are working & which aren't.  So far 2 stings have 1/2 the lights working & 2 were complete.  Now to finish going through the rest.
It's supposed to be sunny & almost 50 today so I'm taking advantage of it & attempting to put lights up on the front of our house for Christmas.  When our boys' were little, Chad lOvEd lights on the house.  The more the better.  Now that Chad is grown we don't get lights.  I asked Dream Boy about this the other night......."it sure would be nice to have lights on the house again for Christmas like we did when the boys' were younger".........his response?  "Have fun with that."  So today I'm going to attempt to not fall off the ladder & if he says one thing about the way they are hung up - oh well, in his own words..."have fun with that"......when he decides to restring them to his own liking.  :)
It's already 10am & I've gotten a start on that list above, but I am still in my jammies & need to shower & dress before I can head out to do lights and groceries.  Actually, groceries might just wait until after supper tonite & hubby & I can do that together = gotta love "date nites".
I spent quite a bit of time this week learning more on my Macbook.  This morning I tried to download my printer only to find that my newest version of Mac doesn't support it.   I can download part of it, but it won't operate the scanner - so what good is that?
We still have our old laptop for backup, so I guess I can use that to scan & then transfer the pics to my Mac, but I love the fonts & new things on my Mac & what good are they if I can't print anything?  And what a chore to move things back & forth between the two computers.  But wait, I have Mobile Me - maybe I can synchronize the two & then I can access the info from each computer through that.  So add that to my to do list to figure out & read more on.
Hi ho - hi ho...
it's off to the shower I go
To get cleaned up
and then head out
to do some chores!
Toodles all!

I'm learning - slowly, but I'm learning how to operate this Macbook.  I had to consult a former student/friend last night & have her walk me through basic keystrokes that I'm so used to having on a PC, but I think I'm getting it more & more.
It's very overwhelming.  I know there is so much more I will be able to do with this computer.  One of the things I've found is this.....
The iphoto booth - too much fun.....I could get into some trouble with this.  My oldest son & girlfriend were playing with it the other night...
One way to get a picture of them together!
Well - off to church to Bible study.......then maybe back home to play some more.  I have over 400 pics to assign names to faces, really LOVE that feature!!!

Newest Addition.....

You've listened to me whine about my slow computer, my take forever to load pictures computer.  A little over a week ago I was really stressing because I had run out of room & still had college soccer games to download & edit.  I had run out of space on my computer.  I spent hours deleting unneeded programs & pictures & copying wanted pictures to a secure outside source.
We went computer shopping.  The salesman warned Dream Boy not to look at the Macs - "you won't want that PC" he said.  I knew not to look at the Macs - my brain was saying, "Stay away from the Macs".......but we looked anyways & I fell in love with it immediately.  My mind started racing of the things - how many more things - I could do with my photography if I only had a Mac.  I began to feel like Ralphie in "A Christmas Story" when all he could think about was his Red Rider BB Gun for Christmas.  Maybe I should have "shot my eye out" before looking at the Macs??
Well a week went by & Dream Boy & I discussed & figured out our budget, & discussed some more.  I did a lot of talking with people "in the know" & hands down - was told the Mac was the way to go if we could.  Yesterday - we did.  We bought a MacBookPro.
Let's just say Christmas came real early for this little girl - waaaaayyyyy early for the next 5 years!  But I'm a very happy mama today.  I'm overloaded with all that it can do & all that I haven't figured out how to do on it yet.  I know yesterday I just barely scratched the surface of the abilities of this little beast.
So if you have any pointers & or great tips or hints on fully utilizing this new addition, please leave me a comment & let me know!
Plus, if you leave a comment, I'll know that people actually read my blog & that I'm not just posting to the air........
Happy Monday!

Happy Birthday Mom

Happy birthday mom.  Today you would have been 75.  Oh how I miss you.
The pain has dulled, but it will never go away.  You are forever in my heart.
It seems so unreal that 5 years have passed since I last celebrated a birthday with you.  I remember that you were feeling so good that day.  I believe you & Pam went out to lunch at Russ' and then she took you shopping at the Dollar Store.
Life has moved on, as it should, but it's not the same without you and dad in it.
Your grandkids' are growing like crazy.  You loved being a grandma - you spoiled them so.
The boys' are all grown & independent and your little girls aren't so little anymore.  They are both growing into real beauties, inside & out.
Thank you mom for everything you were - for all you taught me, for all you gave me, for all you were.
I love you!

MIAA Conference Champions

Let's here it for the boys!!  After a rough start to the first half of the season, the Flying Dutchmen of Hope College, Holland, MI came back with 7 game winning streak to complete their season & claim the MIAA Conference Title.
They do share it with rival Calvin, but since we beat them twice this season - GO HOPE! - we get the automatic berth into the NCAA National Tournament.
Our 1st game is this coming Friday night @ 7:30pm in Osh Kosh (b'gosh), WI.
So soccer season has not come to an end - but the weather is being mighty nice to us here in Michigan - it hit 64 degrees today!!!  Let's hope that the weather stays nice through the weekend!
